aboard the Elizabeth II, in the settlement site and in the interactive
Roanoke Adventure Museum. A docudrama entitled The Legend of Two
Path, an art gallery, boardwalks, waters edge performance, Museum

Pushing The Limits: Aviation Flight Research As Seen Through The NASA
Art Program. Outer Banks History Center Gallery. This art exhibit describes
the history of flight-research at NACA and NASA through the paintings
in the NASA Art Program.The works feature pilots and their aircraft
that routinely pushed the limits, expanding the boundaries of flight.

Lighthouse Gallery & Gifts. From 5 PM until ??? we will host a "birthday"
party for the Cape Hatteras light. This date marks the 200th anniversary
of the lighting of the first light at Hatteras. Among our guests will
be: Cheryl & Bruce Roberts, nationally known writer and photographer,
will introduce their new book about Cape Hatteras; local celebrity artist
and sculptor Glen Eure will unveil his poster marking the event; Kevin
Dufus will be available to sign his book "The Lost Light"
about the disappearance of the Hatteras Fresnel lens and its discovery
many years later; and a few additional surprises we will announce shortly.
The party is followed on Saturday by the annual meeting of the Outer
Banks Lighthouse Society. At dusk on Saturday those who love Hatteras
will gather at the lighthouse for a ceremonial re-lighting of the light.

Carolista Music Festival from 1:00pm to 7:00pm. The Outdoor Pavilion.
Outer Banks Hotline presents the first annual Carolista Music Festival,
Strong and Beautiful Women, and the Men Who Love and Respect Them.
This family musical festival will feature local and national women performers
and celebrate the achievements of the diverse community of women on
the Outer Banks. Performers include Laura Martier, Julie Clark, Rosie
Ledet and more. The festival will offer a marketplace featuring women
artists, womens organizations, culinary divas and outstanding
women-ran businesses. It is a benefit for the Outer Banks Hot Line.
Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate and are available at

UNC English Department will lecture on Thoreau and the Littoral Truth

Susan G. Check Water Media Painting Workshop from 9:00am to 3:00pm daily
(critique to follow each session). The Art Gallery. Susan begins with
a demonstration, followed by a student painting session. Students may
choose to paint on the grounds (plein air) as well as in the Art Gallery.
Coffee and pastries will be served each morning. Enrollment is limited

OBX Oceanfest - Oceanfront at the Ramada Inn. Local business teams;
families; friends compete against each other to become "King of
the Sand Dune". Events include Beach Basketball Free Throws; a
sandy obstacle course; a four person Hawaiian Outrigger race off the
beach; and other tests of strength and team spirit. Great fun to watch

October 25 - October 31
2003 Eastern Surfing Championships are going back to Buxton! The Easterns
have been rescheduled for Saturday, October 25 through Friday, October
31 at the Lighthouse Jetties in Buxton, NC. Despite heavy damage from
Hurricane Isabel to certain areas of the park, the National Park Service
has granted permission to reschedule the event in late October back
in its original location.
The Easterns original schedule of events has moved up one full day
and will begin with the adult divisions on Saturday, October 25th. Youth
divisions will begin on Tuesday, October 28th and the event will end
on Friday October 31st. in order to make way for a major surf fishing
tournament that will begin in the same location the first week of November.
